I'm a little particular of my stones.

Because I'm Sagittarius ascendant, yellow sapphire is good to wear as well as nice bright yellows.

In the planetary periods, right now I'm in a Saturn period so, I may want to wear some water sapphire (also called iolite); however, Saturn is not a naturally benefic planet nor is it reputed being a good Lord for Sagittarius rising so, I wear my Saturn stones on Saturn's day, Saturday!

Although in its exaltation sign and in a good house for me, Venus is still a "bad" Lord for my ascendant (probably the worst in fact) so, I'd better avoid large diamonds since I would not want to promote the negative that Venus holds for me.  A couple of tiny little ones are OK.

Basically, as far as gem quality stones are concerned, I stick to yellow sapphire because it relates to Jupiter my ascendant Lord.  For the rest of what I wear, I stick to semi-precious stones and I do like to wear pearls, crystal and moonstone because they relate to the Moon which is a very sensitive planet so, some pampering should be good.

My other favorites are sunstone, amethyst, fluorite and tourmaline...  Amber also.
